VFD CABLES FOR MOTOR INVERTER SYSTEMS

VFD cables

What does VFD stand for?

ICC expands its product range for the industrial automation sector by adding to its catalogue VFD cables, employed in power motors with inverter drive systems.

The acronym VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) means “device for frequency variation”, namely the inverter, a device that converts direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC).

Operation of the VFD inverter motor system

The operation of the motor drive system with a VFD inverter involves the installation of an electronic controller that adjusts the frequency of the supply voltage. Because of the variation of frequency, the system affects the number of revolutions and consequently the speed of the motor.

VFD cable design

ICC VFD cables are designed for fixed installation or occasional movement.

The construction includes sections ranging from 1.5mm² (16 AWG) to 240mm² (1 AWG) with four conductors.

Our product is also available in a configuration with the ground conductor divided into three conductors arranged symmetrically. The aim is to eliminate induced currents, which can cause malfunctions, interferences, and premature damage to motor bearings.

The shield composition is designed to minimize interferences as much as possible, combining an aluminum/polyester tape with a tinned copper braid.
